This site is about remedies - natural remedies that heal the way nature intended. Pure, gentle, sustainable. But you know, it's just better to not need a remedy in the first place. How about living a healthy life?

One of the keys to good health is to maintain balance. Moderation in everything.

Yin_and_YangNot getting a good night's sleep? Make it a priority to get more sleep. Eating too many fried foods? Have a salad for dinner. Working too much? Take the afternoon off. It's vitally important for your physical, mental, and emotional health to strive for balance in everything you do.

Balance and Physical Health

It's important to keep your diet balanced. Your dinner plate should be covered in all sorts of colors: green, red, yellow, brown. If your food is consistently the same color day after day, you can rest assured that you're not getting enough of every vitamin and mineral your body needs for optimum health.

Work and play should also be balanced. Do you bring work home with you everyday? There's nothing wrong with that, as long as it doesn't consume your evening. The day compartmentalizes itself into three convenient 8-hour blocks, 4 6-hour blocks, and 6 4-hour blocks. If you find a lack of balance in your life, compartmentalize your day into blocks just like those - balancing your time might be a lot easier than you think.

Balance and Mental Health

sunflowerTo keep your mind sharp and ready, you need balance in your thoughts. There are, of course, many things that will influence what you think about throughout the day. But to keep your mental energy on just one or two things all the time - well, you're missing out on a lot of living!

Speaking from personal experience, it's easy to let a project or something that makes you angry or upset consume you. But then where's time to focus on your family? friends? other needs in your life? How can you expend mental energy to meet the demands of your schedule when your focus is so narrow?

If you find that your mind is rather one-track, here's some tips to help:

  • Make time to take a break. Every two hours, stop what your doing and go do something that distracts you from the task at hand.
  • Read. Find something you're interested in and read it. Anything from a brochure to a book, you're bound to learn something and learning new things is bound to keep your mind fresh.
  • Conversation. Hearing others' viewpoints, expressing your own - what better way to clear your head.

Balance and Emotional Health

Life can and should be a rich and varied experience. Experience, again, has taught me that if there's no balance in your life, you will also find that life is boring and mundane. Where's the excitement?

Keep experiencing new things. Keep experiementing. Be yourself in the crowd - the more you put into life, the more you'll get out of it. Don't settle for a rut. In fact, don't settle for anything less than the best!

Wrapping it Up

It's important to keep balance in your life. The great thing is, it's not all that hard to do. Just apply yourself a bit. Slow down. Breathe in all life has to offer. Do it today.
